President’s report
Ferntree Gully Eagles Season 2009
Dear Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Club members,
Firstly I would like to congratulate the Under I8’s on winning the Clubs first Colts Premiership this is a great achievement and I congratulate all that were involved.
Off the field our performance has continued to improve, and the Club will record a profit again, this has come about due to the hard work from the many people that volunteer their time putting in many hours of work for one cause..........to improve the Ferntree Gully Football Club.
Some of the highlights from this year’s calendar where the Golf day, Captain Spalding night, the Ladies lunch, Grand prix race night.
The Club also successfully hosted finals over a two week period with help from the committee members, junior club and many of the players.
Finances
As you will see set out in the tressures report, the Club’s trading performance continued to improve in 2009, consolidating on the profit from the previous year’s hard work.
This continued financial improvement was on top of the many facility improvements made during the season, such as the new plasma TV’s, refurbishment of the balcony room, concrete to the BBQ area, new PA system with cordless mic, new security lighting outside the building, kitchen upgrade. All these facility improvements lifts the profile of the Club within the community and sends a clear message that the Club is moving with the times and maybe even setting the standard.
It is my view that financial improvements made over the last few years are sustainable and we will work to ensure the Club continues to record a profit in the future. In doing so this will put the Club in a strong financial position when the Club moves into a higher division.
Football
The 2009 football season started back in November 2008, Dean Grieg had been appointed senior coach for a second year and everyone was preparing for pre season training. As the season got on the way the team looked fit and ready to take on the season ahead.
Although the season didn’t end the way we would have liked apart from the Premiership in the Colts. There were some encouraging signs with the reserves winning six games showing that the depth within the playing list is getting stronger. At least eight players from the Under 18’s played in the seniors during the year giving the youth within the Club a chance to experience senior football.
We now have a very young playing list and with the continued success of the under 18’s this will provide the Club with exciting youngsters in the years ahead.
Looking ahead to season 2010........
The Club has now appointed Brent King as senior coach for the 2010 season. Brent has been actively talking to all our current players and outlining his plans for next season. Brent has also spoken with many players from other Clubs as new recruits over the last three weeks. I can confidently say that the Club has signed 5 new players at this stage with more players to come. The Players that Brent has targeted to bring to the Club are players that have played at higher division levels and we feel will be at this Club for some time. Tim Beare has been appointed as the reserves coach for the 2010 season. Tim brings with him the experience of coaching at first division reserves; he coached Croydon to a grand final this year. We welcome both Brent & Tim and their families to the Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Club and wish them every success.
Next season the Club intents to field two under 18’s teams (player numbers permitting) one team in 2nd or 1st division and one team in 4th division. Although this will make addition work for everyone at the Club it will be a great opportunity to capitalise on the large number of boys we have already in the colts plus the boys coming through from the juniors and other clubs.
This provides the boys the opportunity to strive to play at the highest level within the Club and develop their football.
Bruce Brunton has committed to continue coaching the Under 18’s next season. The Club wishes Bruce continued success for the season ahead.
John Turner has committed to coach the second team of Under 18’s next season. John returns to coaching the colts next year after coaching the Under 16’s this year. The Club wishes John all the best for next year.

Coaches Announcement for the 2010 season
Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Club is pleased to announce Brent King as Senior coach and Tim Beare as the new reserves coach for the 2010 season.
Brent was assistant coach to Kristian Bardsley at Scoresby in 2005 to 2007 with the focus on fitness, strength conditioning and football skills. In 2008 & 2009 Brent coached the reserves and in both those years the team qualified for finals.
Brent has some history with the Club playing his juniors at the Eagles and later playing some senior games with Ferntree Gully before going to Donvale.
Tim Beare coached Croydon reserves this year with the team finishing on top and going on to make the Grand final.
With the success of the colts over the past three years and many young players coming through into the senior ranks the emphasis will be on development and education.
The Club intends to field two under 18 teams in the 2010 season with the current Premiership coach Bruce Brunton continuing on next year.
John Turner who coached the colts to a grand final in 2008 will return to coach the second team of U 18’s
We wish all the coaches every success in the coming season and beyond.
